The UVA lamps produced by GE in the United States (commonly referred to as purple tubes in China) enjoy a very high reputation both at home and around the world. GE UV-A lamps are divided into BL and BLB. BL, or Blacklight, has the same appearance as ordinary fluorescent lamps, while BLB, or Blacklight Blue, is made of special glass containing cobalt elements and has a black-blue appearance. The peak wavelengths are the same, both at 365 nm.


Applications:
1. Material Engineering: Research on materials with fluorescent illumination schemes, such as the detection of capillary cracks in engine shafts;
2. Textile industry: Material analysis, e.g. composition of woolen products and properties of additives, detection of invisible stain, dry cleaning trademarks;
3. Food industry: detection of food contamination, rotten fruits (especially citrus), meat, fish, etc;
4. Criminal investigation: detection of forged banknotes, cheques, documents or their subsequent changes (bloodstains removed, forged pictures, etc.)
5. Postal Service: Efficiency Detection of Automatic Postage and Forgery of Stamps;
6. Effect lighting: theatre and stage, singing and dancing performance, disco, bar, restaurant, etc;
7. Other applications: advertising and shop window decoration, agriculture, mineralogy, gemstones, art history, archaeological examination, diagnosis, etc.
